Regulations of the Local Ethics Committee (LEK) Institute for Frontier Areas of Psychology and Mental Health e.V. (IGPP)

Preamble1. the LEK assesses internal research projects and proceeds in accordance with the rules of procedure of 15.04.2021.
2. Psychological research projects that are to be financed with third-party funds should be submitted to the Ethics Committee of the German Psychological Society. In the case of externally funded medical research projects, the Ethics Committee of the Medical Faculty of the University of Freiburg i. Br. should be consulted.

§ 1 GeneralThe regulations of the Ethics Committee of the Institute for Frontier Areas of Psychology and mental health e.V. (IGPP) are supplemented by the rules of procedure, which contain guidelines on procedures.

§ 2 Tasks and responsibilitiesI. The Commission acts on behalf of IGPP. The chairperson of the commission shall comment on the applications on behalf of IGPP.

II. The Commission provides assistance and advice to researchers at IGPP with regard to ethical and legal aspects of their research involving human subjects. The commission acts at the request of the researcher or the institute management. Further details are set out in the rules of procedure.

§ 3 CompositionI. The LEK is composed of at least 7 persons, the three members of the Association’s Executive Board and at least 3 scientific, primarily experimentally working employees of the Institute, taking into account the personnel conditions. In addition, the LEK-IGPP includes representatives from the fields of law and medicine, who may be recruited from the IGPP environment.

II. The members of the LEK are proposed by the Research Committee of IGPP and elected by the Research Committee for a period of four years.

III The Chairperson of the LEK and his/her deputy are elected by the LEK members.

IV. Collaboration in the LEK-IGPP is on a voluntary basis.

V. The names of the members of the LEK-IGPP are published on the website of IGPP and in the activity reports.

VI The Ethics Committee may, if necessary, consult further experts for the decision-making process.

§ 4 Basic principlesThe Commission shall base its assessment on the ethical guidelines of the relevant professional associations, such as the Ethical Guidelines of the German Society of Psychology and the Professional Association of German Psychologists (BDP).
