The IGPP is dedicated to systematic and interdisciplinary research into mysterious phenomena and anomalies at the frontiers of our knowledge. These often include unusual human experiences and altered states of consciousness, often referred to as “supernatural”, “extrasensory” or “paranormal”.
The position of the sciences on these topics is very heterogeneous and ranges from lively interest and skepticism to ignorance and even offensive hostility towards scientists who deal with these topics.
However, surveys show that more than two thirds of all people experience such inexplicable phenomena at least once in their lives. For some of those affected, such experiences can be extremely stressful and even traumatizing, leading to exclusion and stigmatization.
We offer a broad-based and free service with information (see also library and archive), education and advice for all interested parties and especially for burdened people.
The IGPP is one of the few scientific institutions in the world that has set itself the task of scientifically investigating these often taboo phenomena without prejudice.
However, the controversial nature of frontier science topics makes it very difficult for us to obtain financial support for our research through the usual channels. The fact that our institute has nevertheless been able to successfully conduct research in this field for 75 years and offer valuable services to the public is mainly thanks to generous private donors, in particular Dr. Fanny Moser and Asta Holler, to whom we would like to express our gratitude and pay tribute at this point.
