The mind-body problem is very old. Although this problem raises a host of issues it is focused on the question of how a purely material world can be intelligibly related to the phenomena of consciousness. In this talk I briefly review the problem and try to survey how it arises across a large number of philosophical theories of the mind-body relation across centuries of development.
